The Worka Cooperative operates the Halo Fafate Washing Station in Yirgacheffe, which serves around 900 smallholder farmers in the area. Coffee is grown on small garden-size plots and is used to supplement a family’s income in addition to being grown for personal use. The farmers here grow their crops at very high altitudes ranging from 2000 – 2200 masl which greatly contributes to the sweetness and complexity of the coffee.
At this washing station, coffee is delivered as cherry by producers, and dried on raised beds. Coffees are then separated into lots of 150 bags of parchment coffee. This is more traceable and allows for greater quality transparency where higher scoring lots can be kept separate – and fetch higher prices to benefit the co-operative as a whole.
This delicious natural Yirgacheffe coffee was purchased for our Looper Blend, and is also working a treat in the Moonface. For our current selection, see Rachia.
Expect layers of dark fruit, stone fruit and tea in this elegant natural coffee from Worka.
