Santo Antonio

Varietal: Yellow Catucai

dark caramel

Santo Antonio is run by sixth generation coffee farmer Pedro Gabarra Teixeira – the son of Joao Newton Texeira, and brother of Mariana Gabarra. The family operate three farms, all of which have have reserves of native trees and plants as large as 40% of each estate. By doing so, and carefully assessing the sustainability of each step in the growing and processing of their coffee, the three farms have been certified Carbon Negative.

In addition to this, Mariana has setup the ASAS Project on the Pinhal estate to serve as a sanctuary for illegally traded or mistreated birds.

Yellow Catucai is a modern cultivar arising from Yellow Catuai crossed wih the disease resistant Icatu (itself, a Yellow Bourbon cross Robusta); we’ve found that we enjoy a lot of the florals and acidity typical of most Bourbon and Catuai coffees. As well as sustainability in farming practices, planting more sustainable varietals of arabica coffee is just another reason to love what the Gabarra-Teixeira family do.

This pulped natural Brazilian coffee really challenged our expectations on the kinds of cleanliness you can get from Brazil. With all the texture and sweetness of a traditional natural, we have a less dominant body and cleaner acid profile in the cup, dark caramel & toffee opens to red fruit and cooked peach.
