PNG has produced some delicious, but often maligned coffees, this Microlot from HOAC member Eno Nosare is an exceptionally clean Bourbon derivative more commonly found in Tanzania; expect floral and dark berry notes on top of some buttery sweetness.
Highland Organic Agriculture Cooperative is the longest continuously operating Fairtrade certified organisations in the Pacific; in Okapa, it maintains and develops roads for the local growers, providing further employment for locals. Memebers receieve pulping machines for members, and the coop has its own mill, retaining more income for the 2600 smallholder members.
In PNG, only 50% of citizens have achieved 3 years of schooling, to combat this, HOAC invests Fairtrade premiums into textbooks and desks for local schools, and in addition, it has built a further 4 elementary schools with teacher accomodation.
